Ringwood Aquatic Centre redevelopment

Maroondah City Council has agreed to build a new $46.5million district aquatic and leisure centre on the site of the current Ringwood Aquatic Centre.

At the Maroondah City Council Meeting on Monday 16 May, Council agreed to build a new $46.5million district aquatic and leisure centre on the site of the current Ringwood Aquatic Centre.

With the endorsement of Council’s proposed Budget and Long Term Financial Strategy, Council not only has the project fully funded, but is in a strong financial position to afford to construct without placing a burden on ratepayers, now or into the future.
The new facility will include:

• a 50 metre pool to FINA standards for lap swimming, swimming carnivals, club training and competition
• enhanced diving facilities with a separate diving pool, again to FINA standards, with a 10 metre diving tower. It will allow training and competitions to be held without impacting other aquatic users
• twin booms will create a variety of different water spaces for diving, water polo and other programmed activities
• spectator seating for 500 people
• 200sqm warm water program pool – which will be more than a third larger than the current pool
• a dedicated learn to swim pool, which is currently not provided
• a 400sqm playpool with beach entry and splash play, including water slides, will replace the current 40sqm wading pool
• a 300sqm dry diving training room
• new dry leisure facilities, including a 760sqm gymnasium, three group fitness rooms, an outdoor training area, and a childcare facility
• new family and accessible change rooms as well as group change rooms

The decision was made following extensive community consultation, with plans to improve the aquatic and leisure facilities underway since an independent review of Ringwood Aquatic Centre in 2009.

The current Ringwood Aquatic Centre will remain open until June 30, 2012, ensuring closure will coincide with the demolition and construction timelines.

Maroondah City Council is committed to the provision of quality aquatic, leisure and well-being facilities and programs for the Maroondah community.
