Rallying for an active lifestyle

Leonard Pearsell

Meet Leonard Pearsell, a well-known Maroondah Leisure member and an excellent example of how an active lifestyle can positively impact your physical, mental and social health.

When Leonard retired in 2004, he maintained his desire to keep fit. He played social golf and participated in daily 10km runs and marathons.

Once he discovered Maroondah Leisure in 2015, he was inspired to use the gym and pool facilities every day to sustain his fitness.

After undergoing two knee replacements, Leonard found that the gym, sauna, spa and warm water pool were instrumental in his speedy recovery.

“Being a Maroondah Leisure member has been a great asset in improving and maintaining my health - physically, mentally and socially,” Leonard said.

At Maroondah Nets, Leonard discovered pickleball through ‘come and try’ days, which aim to encourage senior residents to get involved in activities to keep fit. Leonard has since become a respected player and coach, playing pickleball six times per week and coaching twice per week.

His involvement in various areas of Maroondah Leisure has seen him become a well-known personality across the venues.

“I met and developed friendships with many other members who attend the same facilities,” Leonard said.

Stadiums Manager, Kylie, said Leonard is a fantastic asset to the Maroondah Leisure community.

“He chats with all the staff he sees across the sites and is a great personality,” Kylie said.

Leonard enjoys the flexibility of his Maroondah Leisure membership and couldn’t recommend the facilities enough.

“My membership allows me to play golf at both Dorset Golf and Ringwood Golf seven days per week, but I can also use the facilities at Aquahub in Croydon and Aquanation in Ringwood,” Leonard said.
